Bristol, UK, 10th July 2007: Apitope Named as Runner-up in Top British Bio Award for Innovation in Drug Discovery & Development Apitope Technology (Bristol) Ltd, the developer of peptide-based vaccine therapies and diagnostics for autoimmune and allergic conditions, was named national runner-up in the UK Trade and Investment’s (UKTI) prestigious UK BioEntrepreneurial Company of the Year Awards. Apitope was one of 22 biotechnology companies from across the UK to be nominated for the awards which recognise innovation, research and development and entrepreneurship in the biotechnology industry. Nominees presented to a judging panel made up of experts from the pharmaceutical, venture capital and biotechnology sectors and more than 180 industry leaders. Apitope was runner-up for Innovation in Drug Discovery and Development for its contribution to the development of innovative new medicines in the UK. Dr Keith Martin, Chief Executive of Apitope, said: “It was an honour to have been nominated to represent the South West in this prestigious event and we are thrilled with the result. Over the past year Apitope has achieved some remarkable successes and we look forward to reporting the results of our first in man clinical trial in MS patients later this year.” “We have recently begun testing the safety and efficacy of ApitopesTM in multiple sclerosis.
